Sexual Addiction Therapy
Treatment begins with individual therapy with one of our therapists. It is important in the very beginning that you have an understanding of what treatment here is all about. Generally we spend these early sessions developing a recovery plan. After we have a good grasp on what you need to be working on, we move you into one of the therapy groups and maintain individual sessions on an as needed basis. Each of the therapists here set their own fees which they will be happy to discuss with you. If you have insurance which has mental health benefits, we are happy to file that for you. You would be responsible for whatever the copay is per your benefits. If you do not have insurance coverage, we will be happy to try and work with you in making your care affordable.
Once we have a treatment plan and recovery plan in place, the primary method of treatment is group therapy. We try to limit the size of the groups to 8 to ensure that there is ample time for each group member. We try to offer the groups late in the afternoon or early evenings. We will do everything we can to accommodate your work schedule. Groups will meet for 90 minutes. The charge for group is $200.00 per month which is paid at the beginning of each month. Most insurance policies do not cover long term group therapy, so fees for group therapy are usually out of pocket. If you can get reimbursement from your insurance company, your therapist will be able to provide you with information needed for you to get reimbursed. There will be at least one certified therapist in each group. We also provide a 12 week psycho-ed therapy group, using Dr. Carnes’ Facing the Shadows workbook, which covers the first 7 tasks to recovery. The cost is $25.00 for the book and $120.00 per month. Your therapist will be able to provide you with information as to whether reimbursement can be retrieved from your insurance provider.
Once each month the group will participate in art therapy. This is an extremely valuable tool for addicts to experience. Art therapy is about using the medium of art as a way to access the unconscious. The cost for art therapy and materials is included in the charge for group therapy for month.
We feel that since addiction impacts the entire family, it is important to offer groups for spouses and partners. These groups are led by certified therapists and meet weekly with the costs also being $200.00 per month. Our experience in working with spouses in groups is that the spouse needs to have had individual therapy for themselves or to begin individual therapy while in the spouse group. While the spouse/partner is not responsible for the sexual behaviors of their spouse/partner, we find that much can be learned in group regarding how addiction has impacted the family as well as the spouse/partner. We can provide that with our staff here or can make recommendations for a therapist in the community who has an understanding of sexual addiction.
We offer couples work as a part of the treatment program. It is important for families to stay together during this healing process and couples therapy is one of the ways that we can help that happen. Any of the staff here can provide this or we can recommend someone in the community. It is very important in doing couples work that you work with someone who understands sexual addiction. Most insurance plans will pay for couples therapy and we are happy to file that for you.
12 Step Groups
We highly recommend that everyone in treatment here augment their work by being a part of a 12 step group. There are numerous meetings from which you can choose and can be helpful in building a support system. We will be happy to provide you with the various groups and how to access them. We also recommend 12 step groups for spouses and partners.
There are various faith based support groups within the community that we can assist you with to help you develop spiritually as you recover from your illness.
Trauma and Experiential Therapies
To help customize a clients treatment plan, Wings of Change of Forsyth offers a wide variety of therapies that help clients get to the root causes of their addictive behavior. So often there is a traumatic or neglectful history that precedes compulsive behavior. Through the use of EMDR, art therapy, the trauma egg, empty chair, mindfulness meditation, inner child work, etc, clients will have opportunities to gain experiential knowledge and healing besides using traditional forms of therapy.
We welcome you to work here and are honored to be able to walk this part of the journey with you and your family. This will not only be the most important thing you will have done, it will also be among the most difficult things you will have done. Even though we will carefully review this with you as you begin your treatment, we encourage you to revisit this material to make sure we are on the same page with you.
